Archived - Introducing PinBus

The first two posts introduced this project and the things we tried to make the first prototype machines work. We eventually ended up using an Arduino Mega and some supporting electronics to control our first prototype machines. We are currently working on a more powerful and flexible electronics system for controlling pinball machines, and maybe even other devices.

Teardown #2: APC Smart-UPS 1000VA UPS

This is the teardown of an APC Smart-UPS 1000VA (SUA1000RMI2U). An UPS is a device which powers other devices for a short time in case of a mains power failure. This allows the connected devices to shut down properly.

Archived - Prototype electronics

This is the second post in a series on building our own pinball machine. This post is a more in-depth continuation of the first one. It discusses all the different things we experimented with before we were able to assemble the first prototype “machine”.

Archived - Prototypes

This post is the first one in a series of posts on the development of our own pinball machine. We, me and my father, started with this project sometime in 2012. That year we bought a Bally Freedom (IPDB#952) EM pinball machine. The machine was in a bad shape and we thought it would be a cool project to restore the machine to its original state.

Teardown #1: Defzone 300sg

This is the teardown of a Defzone 300sg network firewall. Firewalls are used to keep your internal network safe from external threats. This particular model was introduced around the year 2007. Interestingly, there is no information to be found about both the model and its manufacturer.
